Parametric Chair
Design Brief
The original objective of this armchair was to design a piece of furniture inspired by the Danish philosophies of well-being. In many ways, Hygge is the experience
of atmospheric emotion of happiness, coziness, and togetherness. I wanted
this design to facilitate enjoyment and create a spot or ‘nook’ where one can feel
contentment and being in the present.
“Hygge is about an atmosphere and an experience, rather than about things. It
is about being with the people we love. A feeling of home. A feeling that we are
safe, that we are shielded from the world and allow ourselves to let our guard
down. You may be having an endless conversation about the small or big things
in life – or just be comfortable in each other’s silent company – or simply just be
by yourself enjoying a cup of tea.”

Design Outcome
I desired my design to be above all- comfortable. Hygge embodies presence,
harmony, and gratitude. As the user sits in this chair they can pick up a book, drink a cup of warm tea, or engage in stories or conversation with surrounding loved ones.
As a designer, I believe that electing environmentally conscious materials or practices does not mean you have to sacrifice quality of visual aesthetics. Throughout this furniture process, I still wanted to prioritize environmental practices. This chair’s upholstery is sown from sustainably sourced and dyed organic linen.
